Exporting using Google Takeout

To export your data using Google Takeout, use these instructions.
  1. Log into your Google account in a web browser. Make sure you're authenticated to your Kenyon account.
  2. Navigate to the Takeout page by:
    1. In the address bar, going to takeout.google.com.
    2. In the address bar, going to myaccount.google.com, then going to the Data & privacy page, scrolling to the bottom, and clicking the Download your data button.
  3. On the Google Takeout page, you will have an option to select any of 48 options for data to include in your archive. You can include as much or as little of your data in the archive as you'd like. For example, you might not have used Google Fit, so you don't need to export that data. Check the boxes on the right side for the Google services whose data you'd like to archive, and uncheck the boxes for the services whose data you don't want to archive. We suggest archiving at least your Calendar, Chrome history (if you used Google Chrome), Contacts, Drive, Google Photos, Google Play Books (if you used Books), Google Hangouts (if you used Hangouts), Mail, and YouTube history (if you used YouTube with your Kenyon account).
  4. Once you've selected the data you want to include, click on the blue Next step button at the bottom of step 1.
  5. Under the Destination option, select where you want to save the data. If you're not sure what to do, you probably want to have a download link emailed to you. You can link a Dropbox account, a Microsoft OneDrive account, another Google account, a Box account, or have a download link emailed to you. Note: If you select the Drive option, this will only allow your data to be read - the account that you transfer the data to won't be able to send email as your Kenyon account. Doing this is equivalent to downloading your archive, then just uploading that archive to Google Drive. It does not move any of the settings or configuration to your other Google account.
  6. Under Frequency, choose if you'd like to make recurring backups or not. If you are exporting your data because you know your account will be removed, you probably only want to select the Export once option.
  7. Under the File type: option, select the file format that you want to receive your archive as. Unless you know what a tarball is, you probably want to choose the .zip option, as this is the most compatible format.
  8. Under the File size: option, select how big each archive file should be chunked to. If you were exporting 12GB of data, you might want to export in 2GB chunks, since it's easier to download multiple smaller files than one big file (big file downloads tend to fail). If your archive is smaller than your chunk size, you'll only receive one archive file to download. Note: Regardless of your chunking size, you'll still receive all of your data.
  9. When you're ready, click on the Create export button. Google will bundle all of your files into the format that you chose earlier, but keep in mind that this process can take a long time, as short as a few minutes and as long as a few days. The more data you're archiving, the longer this process will take. You can leave this page now, and when your archive is ready, you'll get an email.
So I've gotten the email that my export is ready. What now?
You'll only get this email and have these options if you chose to have a download link emailed to you. You've gotten an email with the subject line Your Google data is ready to download. From the date that you receive this email, you'll have seven days to download your data before your archive link becomes unusable. To get your data:
  1. Open this email, then click on the Download your files button. Don't forward this email to anybody!
  2. A new browser tab will open, but you'll probably have to give your password in order to download your files. Type in your password, then continue.
  3. If your archive didn't have to be chunked, then it will automatically start downloading. You can also manually start downloading by pressing the blue Download button.
  4. If your archive had to be chunked, then you'll have to choose which files to download. You can start the download by pressing the blue Download button next to each chunk.
Not all of the data that I need is in my archive! What can I do?
You might've forgotten to include some data that you wanted to archive. No worries! While you can't modify an existing archive, you can create a new export by following the instructions at the top of this help article.
