What Is Device Registration?

What is device registration?
You can register your personal wireless-capable devices—such as phones, tablets, and gaming systems—for use on KenyonDevices. After registering a device, you will not need to sign into Kenyon's wireless network on that device before going online. Registering your device is like "teaching" KenyonDevices who your device is.
How soon can I use my registered device?
Registration is enabled almost immediately, and most devices are ready to connect within 30 minutes. You can update a device registration by yourself, whenever it's necessary - no need to call Helpline.
Are there any limitations to registering a device?
You alone should register your device. When you register a device, you are responsible for the behavior and actions associated with the device, including any violations of Kenyon's Acceptable Use Policy. Some of Kenyon's services may not work on a registered device but would work if you were logged into KenyonWiFi.
What kind of devices can I register?
Registration is useful for devices you wish to have access to Kenyon's wireless network. This includes devices on which opening a web browser (which is needed for Kenyon's WiFi) could be cumbersome or impossible. You can register:
  • Smartphones (like iPhone, Android)
  • Tablets (like iPad)
  • eBook readers (like Kindle or Nook)
  • Game consoles (like Nintendo Switch, Xbox, or Playstation)
  • Streaming video players and smart TVs (like Apple TV or Roku)
LBIS does not recommend that you register your computer with the wireless network. Users who do so may notice that some services do not work as if they were logged into KenyonWiFi.
How does device registration work?
Every device has a MAC address that uniquely identifies it, even Windows PCs. This address is given to the network controller when you try to connect, and a connection session is established according to this address. After you register your device's MAC address on KenyonDevices, KenyonDevices will recognize your device by the MAC address as belonging to your account whenever you try to connect, skipping the captive portal.
Why do I need to register my device?
Some devices don't support authentication using a captive portal, like game consoles. If your device doesn't support captive portal authentication, you'll need to register your device.
You can also register your device for convenience. Since registering a device allows it to authenticate without requiring a captive portal, you would simply be able to select KenyonDevices without having to type in a username and password.
