Why is Kenyon using Zoom Phone?

Kenyon is transitioning its phone provider from Cincinnati Bell Telephone Systems (CBTS) to Zoom Phone. This transition is part of Kenyon's effort to bring more secure and more feature-rich systems.

Kenyon's old system was Cisco Unity Connect, provided by CBTS. It was primarily desktop-phone based. We are switching to Zoom Phone, provided by Zoom. It is primarily software-phone based, with expansion available for hardware phones.

Using the new phone system will give you some advantages:
  • More robust security with better and newer encryptions standards
  • No need to forward calls to your cell phone - just use the native software client on your cell phone
  • Administer your Zoom profile yourself at kenyon-edu.zoom.us/profile and your Zoom Phone profile yourself at kenyon-edu.zoom.us/pbx/page/telephone/myZoomTelephony#/my-cloud-phone - no need to reach out to Helpline for PIN resets
  • Dial-by-extension - no need to dial the entire number
  • Better call routing
  • Faster time-to-response for phone issues - more issues are handled in-house
When your phone is ported over, your old Cisco phone will stop working. It may display an error at the top of the screen when it stops working. We'll drop by to pick up your phone after the port is complete. Please don't unplug or collect your office's phones before we come by!
